First responders were called at around 2:30 a.m. to the 2000 block of Half Street SW on Monday, Jan. 22, where there was a reported rollover crash with two people trapped inside, officials say.

DC Fire and EMS crews were quick to get to work to save a man and woman by cutting off the roof of the crinkled Jeep, and they were taken to the hospital by paramedics with what were initially described as critical - though the man was later downgraded to serious - injuries.

It is unclear what caused the crash, which left the Jeep destroyed and on its side in the middle of the roadway. No additional information about the victims was released by the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident remains under investigation. The street was temporarily closed on Monday morning, but has since reopened.
